Would you risk everything to save a dolphin?
When champion windsurfer Becky Samuels returns to New Zealand during the pandemic, everything’s changed. Dad’s moved house, and Becky has a new stepmum, and an annoying baby brother. Even worse, Becky’s windsurfing board hasn’t arrived.
After Becky finds an obsidian stone, everything changes. She makes friends at school, joins an environmental group, borrows a board, and has several close encounters with an inquisitive dolphin. It’s friendly, but Becky can’t shake the feeling it’s trying to tell her something.
As poachers steal fish from the local marine reserve, rubbish washes up on the beach, and brooding storm clouds gather.
If Becky is the dolphin’s only hope, will she be able to save it?

"Donna Blaber delivers vivid landscapes that do New Zealand's coastlines justice and keeps the story moving along with enough attention spread between the characters, so that the reader stays involved and engaged in the story, rooting for our heroine. This novel will definitely appeal to 8-12-year-old readers. And it has me seeking out the two previous titles in the trilogy!" Alan Dingley, Magpies, Talking About Books for Children.
“A very readable light adventure featuring, as well as the joys of windsurfing, environmental concerns, a dolphin that seems to want to communicate something, and a couple of baddies to add to the intrigue.” Flaxflower
“Great for girls of intermediate and junior secondary age especially reluctant readers.” Bob Docherty, Bobs Books Blog
“Just Keep Going is an engaging read with delightful characters and wonderful messages about the environment and the importance of friends and family…” Karen McMillan, NZ Booklovers
"This story evoked a lot of nostalgia; a kiwi child growing up on the edges of the ocean. The vivid descriptions of the bays, surf and wildlife brought many fond memories alive once more. The obsidian stone was not only the vessel to carry the magic, it also acted as a magnet to draw people together, building special relationships during a time when people needed companionship the most." Claire Aramakutu
"This is the second book I have read by this author and both of them I have enjoyed. I like how Blaber’s books are about people working through normal problems but then they also add something more to the plot." Jessica Dowling, for Hooked on Books
“…a relatable book that sheds light on real issues in our everyday world, yet still manages to add a mythical touch to the story." Nell Mace-David, for Hooked on Books
“Just Keep Going is a book about saving the planet, even if picking up rubbish seems like a small way to do it. There is more to it than that, but I don't want to drop any spoilers. Just know that being a responsible human who cares about the environment is not only important to this book, but important no matter what. We all need to work together if we are going to help heal the earth.” Ariel Basom, Reedsy

“I think it is one of the most amazing books I have read. It is a motivating and inspiring story and a definite must-read for those who are going through hard times. It will remind them that no matter how hard things get, everything will eventually work out.” Amelia Mackenzie, for Hooked on Books
